"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

Just Dandy!

It’s not bad being a supporter of Dumbarton FC these days. Best part time club in the land by a country mile and in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time in 35 years.

The quarter final draw has paired the Sons with in-form Aberdeen at Pittodrie. I have been listening and reading the media comments over recent days and it seems like it’s bad news for my team. The decision has been made that the Dandies are this seasons cup winners and no mistake.

Dons’ legend Willie Miller seems to be getting quite carried away by the fact that his old club are already in the League Cup Final and ‘Only two games away from a second final appearance of the season’. He came out with a humdinger of a comment in the press this week, i.e. that he regarded the current Aberdeen side as potentially as good as the one that he played in in the early 80s.

The side that won the European Cup Winners Cup and the European Super Cup.

Whilst I wouldn’t make any extravagant claims about Dumbarton, I would urge caution to those tipping the Dons for cup glory. Their opponents in the quarter finals are unbeaten in 2014 and are top scorers in the Championship. Confidence is high.

Aberdeen have a good cup tradition punctuated only by defeats in recent years from lower league clubs including the likes of Stenhousemuir and Queens Park.

I think the Sons and manager Ian Murray, who was on the radio with Miller on Monday night, are wise to keep their powder dry. Miller was a tad patronising to Murray who gave some modest, self effacing responses.

Come on the Sons!

  1. Did Raith not twice knock the Dons out of the cup at Pittodrie? That was my first thought at the draw. No need for Sons to fear.
