Writing the post below made me think (yip! that’s what that noise was) about organisations and how they are named.
If an organisation is charitable or religious it tends to have a longer, explanatory name. Although they are shortened to initials, there are usually at least four words/initials involved; for instance The RSPB, RSPCA, SSPCA, NSPCC, MIND, CHAS, GOSH, SPUC etc. etc.
However if you join an organisation with three initials, it seems to me that sooner or later you’ll be on a march of some kind, in a fight or in some cases involved in some sort of terrorism.
This list is right of the top of my head and in no particular order so it’s not exhaustive:
BNP, EDL, IRA, UDA, UVF, PLO, CND, ANL, TUC, GMB, ALF
Maybe UKIP are going to apply for charitable status?
