"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

A long time ago……

I’ve only just discovered the Google newspaper archive and what a treasure trove it is.

Newspapers from the nineteenth century to the present day with searchable archives. It’s the type of place I could get lost in for several days.

I had a look at some archives from the Glasgow Herald and Evening Times. Reflecting on my recent loss of interest in the fitba’ I ruminated on the days when I was very much interested and found this about the Sons (I was there)

Moving from the sublime to the ridiculous I found this:

And this may be no consolation to Hearts fans but there may be more embarrassing things than losing five goals at home to Tottenham:

  1. The Hearts report doesn’t mention the police escort out the ground 🙂

  2. Even such an unexpected and convincing victory only earned the Sons two points in dem days (v Hearts)

  3. I am unconvinced of the need to post that…..

  4. Rab, please stop posting links like this. I have a bathroom that’s been waiting for me to finish tiling since before Christmas 2009 and my band wonder why my playing is getting worse by the week.
I don’t need much encouragement to sit here for hours on end.
Did you know there was a Disney double bill on at the ABC in Clydebank in January 1980?

    • Gavin, take your time with that bathroom, rushing will achieve nothing. Everyone knows that tiling is a job that demands patience and is very time consuming, besides you only started before Christmas 2009. On the grand scale of things you are zooming ahead!!!! Ask Martin to explain this…………………………….

      • Martin = Toronto Tam’s brother!

        • Gavin, Tam moved into his present house about 25 years ago and decided that he didn’t particularly like the layout of the toilet and shower room in the basement. He then did what any other person would do and ripped it out….fast forward 25 years and he has now managed to re-do the pipework for the rearranged room and hopes to have the job completed within the next 5 or 6 years. Having said that, in the intervening years, he has managed to put on about 3 stones in weight, so you can see he has been very busy.

  5. Princess Anne broke her nose the day after I was born.

  6. Tam, that’s the walls all tiled. Just got the floor to do.

  7. […] *It seems I have misremembered this game slightly. Big Rab’s blog a week or so ago featured a newspaper clipping which says we were 2-1 down at half time that day. So we were up the park not 3, but 4 times in the […]
