"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

Mean Streets

This was the scene that greeted me as I tried to get to work this morning:

And this explains why the road was closed all day for forensic tests.

The Weekend Waits – Chocolate Jesus

A re post.

As TW says, it’s for the kids at Easter.

Bon Voyage

Indeed Bon Voyage to Jenifer and her family who are of to Ireland on Sunday and will follow the route described by Van Morrison in his monologue ‘Coney Island’. Sue and I took the same journey in 1998 and I wrote about it on my old Vox blog. The posting remains although in a rather jumbled fashion here and that’s where Jenifer found TBLFP.

The internet is great isn’t it?

Here is the track itself

George Galloway – You Tube

And what’s this? Can this be unreconstructed left wing socialist George schmoozing with high profile Conservative and Unionist Party member and Old St. Aloyisian Paul McBride? And what’s this? Here’s well known businessman and Labour donor Brian Dempsey too!

What unites these seemingly disparate characters? Are they in some secret fraternal organisation together do you think?

(Also featured at George’s website )

Every so often you get one of these moments when you think that life ain’t so bad after all.

Sometimes they are unexpected.

Sometimes they can occur at the most unlikely times and locations.

Last night, having just walked through the playground of the now derelict and decaying Hermitage Academy with the dog, such an occasion arose.

Always an eysore, now a derelict one.

I looked straight ahead to see this magnificent magnolia in full bloom:

My phone wasn’t quite the standard of camera required to capture the charm of goldfinches which flitted around the branches, but I stood and watched them for a few minutes in the warm spring evening air until Sally, the mystified dog, got impatient and started barking.

Goldfinches @chez Bigrab

Just as I turned away from the tree to continue on my way, my mp3 player, with about 10,000 tracks on it and set to shuffle, played this song:

Should I add the theme from the Outer Limits? or the X Files?

The goldfinch photo is from this post from 2008.
