As the blizzards continue unabated and the snow swirls around Bigrab Towers……
It’s been great having my friend Alastair and his wife Ann staying over the weekend. However our itinerary was altered somewhat from the original plans. Although we made the planned, and very enjoyable lunch with friends on Saturday, the referees strike put paid to the Dumbarton game with Alloa. As it turns out the game wouldn’t have on anyway because of the weather.
The weather in question was the deepest November snowfall I can remember and meant that our friends’ planned return to Campbeltown via the A83 Rest and be Thankful as well as other country routes would have been insane to attempt. The police agreed and closed of parts of the A82 and A83 yesterday.
All this meant that our guests had an extra night here which included emergency rations in the shape of a delicious takeaway curry last night.
Hopefully the snow plough will carve out their route home today although if another curry is required tonight, so be it!!
I see that the inevitable has happened and Dougie McDonald has resigned as a referee after admitting to being economical with the truth in dealings with Celtic boss Neil Lennon.
On the resignation of Hugh Dallas over forwarding THAT email, I do wonder why they didn’t just move him to another office and pretend nothing had happened?
Of all the shotgun weddings and arranged marriages which have taken place in the EU, the joining together in a single currency was one of the most bold. The question is that with the various crises besetting economies in the Euro zone, will the idealism which heralded its introduction be enough to sustain the currency?
Increasingly those in the know don’t think so. And if the Euro perishes on the rock of reality, what then for the EU itself?
