"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

Things Can Only Get Better

The new look Sons started their league campaign against Montrose today. Due to holidays and other commitments this is the first chance I’ve had to see many of the new boys in action. Whilst there were flashes of skill from Stevie Murray and Derek Carcary, Montrose had done their homework and by their tactics had pretty well snuffed out much of the threat from these two.

After half an hour of almost constant pressure from the home side which yielded nothing, Montrose got a corner which a bunch of blind schoolboys could have defended better – 1-0 to Montrose at half time. Just before the break one of several heavy tackles meant Sons’ Mark Canning leaving the field by stretcher.

The away team’s physical approach earned them several bookings and it was no surprise when the equaliser came via the penalty spot, Montrose’s Jay Stein being red carded for his protests. Ross Clark it was who slotted away the spot kick.

In many ways it was familiar frustrations for the Sons fans but I feel that once Messrs Murray and Carcary and some of the other newbies bed in they can certainly improve on last season’s showing and hopefully mount a challenge for the title.

The ref was terrible.

  1. Damn, three points dropped already! I thought Montrose migh cruise the league this season, but looks like it’s not to be. Are Annan going to be the new Gretna (or the new Ross County at least)?

  2. I hope not Mark – we’ve got Annan in the CIS cup tomorrow night!

I don’t think anyone will cruise the league this season but I thought that at the beginning of last season and East Fife did.

  3. Obviously I meant two points dropped….

  4. Hmm, looks like maths AND football are not your strong points Mark…
