"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

Music Quiz

So what is the connection?

  1. […] bigrab wrote an interesting post today on Music QuizHere’s a quick excerptSo what is the connection? […]

  2. Mr Berry successfully sued the BB’s for stealing his song

  3. You’re nearly right Martin. Apparently the matter was settled out of court between Chuck and the Beach Boys’ manager Murray Wilson (Brian’s father) who simply gave Berry all the royalties. Apparently the Beach Boys only found out about 25 years later.

    The songs are nearly identical!

  4. Hi Rab,

I know from a brief contact on Elephants Graveyard that you are a Tom Waits fan, did you get tickets for his Edinburgh shows?
I went on his site to buy some (and at that time they were still available) but couldn’t belive the price of them. I’ve been a fan for twelve years or so and was looking forward to seeing him, never having seen the man live before, but there is a limit and I think £75 and £95 is taking the piss.Let’s be honest, I could have afforded it,but could I justify it to the family? don’t think so,especialy since we have just been to Liverpool to see The Zutons (yawn…) Kaiser Chiefs (fan-friggin-tastic!!) and Paul McCartney (a religious experience).
In relation to the quiz I once saw Chuck Berry in concert, what a legend, saw the Beach Boys about 1990 and can honestly say thay are the worst live band I have ever seen!
    Enough rambling

  5. Wolfie, sadly the Elephant’s Graveyard is no more. It simply wasn’t used enough. Yes I have Tom Waits tickets – see https://bigrab.wordpress.com/2008/05/27/got-them/ and also on the categories on the left if you click on Tom Waits you’ll see my postings. I even attempted a song last week! I agree the price is outrageous but I’ve justified it to myself and to get Tom back I downloaded his last triple album for £2!!

I’ve heard the latest McCartney shows have been pretty good. I was a fan many years ago but TBH his output is too patchy for me to be encouraged along.

I love both Chuck Berry and the Beach Boys but have never seen either live. There’s a Mike Love Beach Boys show doing the rounds which my friend went to and he was full of praise.
