An early taste yesterday of the new “co-operation, democracy and fairness” (H Van Rompuy) that the Lisbon Treaty will bring to us all in Europe:
On the appointment yesterday of a French Internal Market Commissioner France’s President Sarkozy declared: “the British are the big losers”. He continued “Do you know what it means for me to [...]

Yesterday Neelie Kroes, the EU’s competition commissioner – an unelected Brussels technocrat – ordered the restructuring of a large part of the British banking industry. Just in case anyone thought it was Darling’s idea.
In other news David Cameron’s promise/unshakable commitment/cast iron guarantee, to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty appears to have gone the [...]

The referendum replay result in Ireland was a foregone conclusion. Every major political party and companies such as Microsoft, Ryanair and Intel along with the press, trade unions and farmers groups campaigned for and financed the yes lobby.

The citizens of the Irish Republic go to the polls today in a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

Oh! silly me! the 2008 result was the wrong one! It was the one [...]

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused as Elvis Costello once said. Reading all the guff on how the EU are planning to completely rig a result hold a second referendum in Ireland on the European Constitution Lisbon Treaty one cannot help a couple of ironic smiles. Caroline Flint, the British [...]

The Lisbon Treaty was passed by the UK parliament today and will receive Royal Ascent tomorrow.
Prime Minister Brown said to parliament;
“We respect the decision of the Irish. They have asked to have more time to discuss what their proposals will be to deal with this situation,”
If Mr Brown’s first sentence was sincere, the second sentence [...]

I heard Scottish (Labour) MEP David Martin bleating away on Radio Scotland tonight about the clear rejection of the European Constitution Lisbon Treaty by voters in the Irish Republic. “How can 1% of the EU electorate hold the rest of us to ransom?”, he complained. The answer David is simple, it’s because they were the [...]

It seems the EU is stumbling from one insoluble crisis to another. The UK government having promised in their last manifesto to have a referendum on the EU constitution are being taken to court by Tory millionaire Stuart Wheeler for not doing so. Ah! say the government, but after France and Netherlands rejected the constitution [...]
