Thanks to Mr Eugenides for articulating something I have been thinking all along about the release of “The Lockerbie Bomber” The conspiracy theorists have been banging on about remarkable coincidences and Mr E deals with one (Magnus Linklater) by saying that there were only four possible outcomes thus:
(1) Both Westminster and Scottish Exec in favour [...]

Maybe it has been the unedifying sight and sound of the Labour MSP’s (I’m sure Iain Gray could get a job doing cartoon voiceovers) and the Liberals who look as if they’ve collectively visited a charity shop closing down sale.
Whatever the reason a new poll reported by the Press Association puts public support for Kenny [...]

Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time this morning. However I have had a look at the correspondence and papers relating to the Megrahi case both from the UK and Scottish governments.
The Guardian very helpfully puts the links all on the one page CLICK HERE to view them.
So, did Megrahi receive any guarantees that [...]

Today the Scottish Government will release the papers on the Megrahi case. The opposition parties have roundly condemned Kenny MacAskill’s decision on various grounds.
The various allegations are that Megrahi’s appeal was going to succeed and throw the Scottish justice system into meltdown and on that basis a deal was done. Or if you prefer [...]

The Lockerbie issue is still high on the agenda of the Sunday papers and the rest of the media.
I am more convinced than ever of two things (just an opinion mind you):
1) The release of Megrahi by Kenny MacAskill was not part of any ‘deal’
2) The UK government has for many years been trying to [...]

Just been reading some fascinating stuff on Scott’s Love and Garbage blog, where he expresses intelligent opinion hewn from his broad and deep familiarity with the practice and processes of Scots Law.
Scott also directs me to the blog of Jonathan Mitchell QC who writes:
If Megrahi was indeed rightly convicted of mass murder, which I doubt, [...]

The Lockerbie stushie is showing no signs of abating and the main fall guy continues to be Scottish justice minister Kenny MacAskill. I’m probably in a dwindling number who has sympathy left for him but really some of the press comment has been a disgrace.
The internet forums have descended predictably into remarks about ’skirt wearing [...]

Zooming up the Google rankings is the phrase ‘boycott scotland’ and lo and behold if you click here it’ll take you to a site of that very name.
Quite what the logic is in Americans punishing companies whose owners and workers may well disagree with Kenny MacAskill’s decision as much as they do escapes me.
The alternative [...]

I can only be describing one news item.
I have absolutely no idea if Abdel Basset Ali Al-Megrahi planted the bomb which so cruelly and violently ended the lives of 270 people on Pan Am flight 103 and the town of Lockerbie in December 1988.
There have however been many doubts cast on the conviction by some [...]
