Drymen Bridge

This is Drymen Bridge

It has spanned the River Endrick near Drymen for decades, possibly centuries.

Nothing particularly remarkable about it although it is quite an attractive Scottish stone bridge and carries the A811, the main road from Dumbarton/Balloch to Stirling, over the river.

It was made a listed building in 1973.

This morning it was washed away by the torrential rain we have had in west central Scotland.

Such was the travel disruption on local routes that Eve and her mum were at Carlisle whilst our journey home by train from Glasgow was terminated at Dalmuir because of the flooding.

A combination of a service bus, a mile walk (circumventing floods in Dumbarton) and a further train got us back eventually.

Edit – OK I got it wrong. I went by early news reports by local agencies who reported that the bridge had been destroyed. Apparently it is damaged but repairable. The road was open today so the bridge must be at least part usable. Sorry for the wrang infae
