An Everyday Story of Football Folk

I have written about the colourful major shareholder in Livingston FC, and former major shareholder in Dumbarton FC Neil Rankine a few times.

This morning Neil made it into the papers once again with his former co-director at Dumbarton, Donnie McIntyre who is now a director at Albion Rovers.

Neil alleges that Donnie, an SFA committee member and treasurer, on the eve of the vote on Livingston’s fate for breaking rules on clubs going into administration asked him (Rankine) for £43,000. Rankine refused to pay and McIntyre subsequently voted to relegate Livingston to the third division.

Neil now says he is taking all his paperwork (in his capacity as Donnie’s bookie) to the police to confirm that Donnie, in breach of SFA rules was a major gambler on the outcome of Scottish games.

The Mail says it has also uncovered two payments of £50,000 made by McIntyre to Rankine. Rankine also allegedly made 39 phone calls to McIntyre the day before the crucial meeting to decide Livingston’s future.

If ever any story illustrated how important it was to get these guys out of Dumbarton FC it is this one.
