"Great read every day. Makes me smile as Rab muses about music and his irreverent views on the EU. Tune in, you won't be disappointed."

"Excellent 'Blog' which can be controversial at times, while maintaining it's humour. Keep it up Big Rab!"

"Updated every day with doses of good humour, political satire, a running commentary on the progress of author's home football team and his life."

"Pure brilliant, so it is - I never miss it, though God knows, I've tried."

"An inspiration to start my own blog"

"For dipping into it's better than pakora sauce"

"Anyone who doesn't like the EU and has a soft spot for Albion Rovers can't be all bad"

    "Facile and False"

    "Populist,puerile and prosaic"

"Utter pish! Keep it up, I love it!"

"People may also find the Ben Lomond Free Press blog illuminating, interesting and/or amusing. It’s not mentalist as such but familiar themes emerge. I particularly like accounts of encounters with strange elementals (of course! ELEmentals!) from elfin safety. And the fact that the blog is run by someone who plays in a blues band called Harmonica Lewinsky."

Euro (or) Millions?

I notice that the BBC report on speculation associating Neil Lennon with the managerial vacancy at Everton, says that the Celtic boss has ‘cooled speculation’ about his status as bookies favourite for the job.

Really?

Lets examine what Lenny said yesterday:

“Everton are a huge club a great club with great history, and they just lost probably one of the greatest managers in their history.

“It is flattering as I said to be linked with them but that’s all it is, just a link.”

Using your skill and judgement, how would you précis what he has said here?

1) The BBC report is correct and he has distanced himself from the job.

2) The use of the words huge, great and greatest in the space of one sentence about Everton in no way mean that Neil does in fact want to be their manager.

3) Gie’s a job Mr Kenwright please.

  1. You’re just hoping that they go for him rather than Ian Murray, Rab – admit it.

  2. Can I just mention that only the Glasgow press link Lennon with Everton. No English media mention him.

  3. Apart from The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/may/08/phil-neville-everton-david-moyes

    And The Times (paywall?): http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/scotland/article3762225.ece

    And The Mirror: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/evertons-next-manager-michael-laudrup-1879251

    And The Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/picturegalleries/10048325/Contenders-to-replace-David-Moyes-at-Everton-in-pictures.html?frame=2559039

    And The Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/michael-laudrup-dismisses-everton-talk-as-pure-speculation-8611479.html

I think you see where I’m going with this. As it happens, I would be surprised if Everton are interested: at best, he has much more to prove. If he’s offered the job, though, I would expect him to take it in a heartbeat.

  4. If I was an Everton fan, I can think of several managers I’d wish to see in a queue ahead of Neil Lennon.

Try Benitez, Martinez, Poyet, Mackay and Di Matteo for starters.

Incidentally, Wigan’s achievement yesterday rather pours more cold water on the perennial ‘Davie Moyes doing a heroic job at Goodison with no money’ pish.

As one of the Premiership’s bigger beasts just how come they never have any money ??
