The SpecSavers advert (the one where the Space Shuttle arrives at the wrong airport!) is being shot in Glasgow.

yeah maybe the space shuttle everyone was trying to get a pic of as it passed their city!
All the elements of the answer are here. It is indeed the Space Shuttle on the back of a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. The photo was taken in 1985 as they flew over Glasgow. The spires belong to Glasgow University.
They were just a wee bit off course then.
