Striking

Remember when teachers, nurses, doctors, librarians, social workers, care assistants, bin men and lollipop ladies crashed the stock market, wiped out banks, took billions in bonuses and paid no tax? No, me neither.

Horse D’Oevres

My old friend, and occasional correspondent here, Glade Rover, forwards this photo sent to him by his brother who lives in Thailand; He had noticed a rather interesting item on a menu: Half a kilo! quite a bargain eh? I’m beginning to wonder if this is the secret ingredient in Morrisons Value Curry Sauce!

Buffalo 1905

Another fantastic photo from Shorpy. It’s of Buffalo, New York in 1905 and shows the steamer North Land with the Main St and town in the background. To view the amazing full size photo, click here

Saucy!

This is a jar of Morrisons Value Curry Sauce. Its ingredients are tomato purée, onion, sultanas, sugar, curry powder, coriander, tumeric, fenugreek, cumin, mustard, ginger, pepper, paprika, chilli and nutmeg amongst others. Your challenge, without checking is to tell me just how much value is in this curry sauce? How much for a 440g jar?

Wednesday Waits – Missing My Son

This track, from 2007′s Orphans, Brawlers and Bastards, came on the iPod last night at random. Worth sharing.

The Riverside Museum of Transport

My friend Brian, the wandering poet, visited the new Glasgow Museum yesterday. He said it was very: 1) Impressive and 2) Busy. He sends these photos: Brian suggests that the photo below is an item donated by Dumbarton supporters as their former transport to away games. Now sadly no longer needed because of under subscription [...]

This is a typical crowd scene from a River Plate v Boca Juniors match in Buenos Aires: And here were the scenes the other day when River Plate were relegated to the second division for the first time in their history: I heard it described yesterday as being like Manchester United being relegated (an event [...]

Human Rights and Human Wrongs

My last attempt at writing about Human Rights and how European conventions and laws apply in Scotland drew a response from a solicitor that I was either a fool or a man of no integrity. I was to choose which; there was no third option which perhaps allowed me the luxury of having a point. [...]
