Or…….
Down and out in a posh restaurant/hotel in Glasgow.
Probably the very poshest restaurant/hotel in Glasgow.
Yeah through my having mentioned Scotland’s other national drink, aka Irn Bru, and their advertising campaigns on this blog a few times, I scored an invite to the launch of their new TV commercial yesterday.
The press had been there in the morning and they had invited bloggers to attend a barbecue in the afternoon.
One of those bloggers was Janey Godley and it was a real bonus to be treated to an impromptu comedy show whilst we enjoyed the five star barbie.
Janey went to Largs for her honeymoon, ran a pub in the east end of Glasgow for many years, recommends Lidl Night Cream and is now an internationally renowned stand up comic. That’s not a bad CV for starters.
Then we were treated to a sneak preview of the ad which will become a staple on Scottish TV channels this summer. The press release, in PDF format is below.
The interesting stuff for me is that from the opening scenes in Saltcoats, the film cuts to a music festival and (what looks like) an animation of Loch Lomond. All accompanied by the rather excellent Paolo Nutini. What’s not to like here?
Perhaps not quite as quirky as some of their previous ads but they have again made the effort to promote their Scottishness and it would seem they know their strengths and how to play to them.
I’m not embarrassed at all about joining in the publicity for this. A product I like personally (sugar free version) and a series of adverts I’ve enjoyed for many years (Message to whisky manufacturers: send all invites to rab@harmonicalewinsky.co.uk )
You are amongst the few to see this in advance of the official release tomorrow.
