Nice Strip Shame About the Results!

I haven’t written about the Sons last two games because I wasn’t at either of them, one due to a friend’s stag weekend and the other because Brechin is awfy far. Results of course haven’t been great but I’m confident Jim and the boys can turn things round. In the meatime, we’ll look good!

If it Looks Like a Duck…..

A bit of fun.
My correspondent Almax used the phrase “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.”
The duck test is a humorous term for a form of inductive reasoning. It can be explained this way:
The test implies that a person can figure [...]

200,000

Sometime today this obscure outpost of the internet will welcome its 200,000th visitor since January 2008 according to the WordPress counter in the right hand column.
I’m told that WordPress blogs are better at getting up the search engines than any others which would perhaps explain why there are currently an average of over 500 visitors [...]

Craigendoran

This excellent photo of the pier from the 1890’s features the steamers Dandy Dinmont, Red Gauntlet and Lady Clare. The photo comes from Helensburgh Heritage Trust.

Compare with my own photo of the now derelict pier taken a couple of years ago (notice the Waverley in the distance)

Straws in the Wind

The Lockerbie issue is still high on the agenda of the Sunday papers and the rest of the media.

2) The UK government has for many years been trying to [...]

An Everyday Story of Football Folk

I have written about the colourful major shareholder in Livingston FC, and former major shareholder in Dumbarton FC Neil Rankine a few times.
This morning Neil made it into the papers once again with his former co-director at Dumbarton, Donnie McIntyre who is now a director at Albion Rovers.
Neil alleges that Donnie, an SFA committee member [...]

The Weekend Waits – Warm Beer and Cold Women

Warm beer and cold women, no I just don’t fit in
Every joint I stumbled into tonight that’s just how it’s been
All these double knit strangers with gin and vermouth
And recycled stories in the Naugahyde booths
With the platinum blonds, tobacco brunettes
I’ll be drinkin’ to forget you, I’ll lite another cigarette
And the band’s [...]

Health Fanatic

John Cooper Clarke.
Brilliant.

Seventies Cheese – Peter Frampton

The former Herd and Humble Pie guitarist re-emerged in 1975 with a contraption attached to the microphone which he ‘chewed’ to get a wah-wah effect out of his guitar.
The band looked much like the New Seekers only with more hair. Nearly every pub band in Christendom played this number (usually using a wah-wah pedal), even [...]
