- 1/8. John Cavanagh uncovers the story behind Ghost Town, by The Specials. A song that’s been described as the most prescient number one in British chart history.
- It was the anthem for early Thatcherite Britain. I think it articulated the whole thing in a much more succinct way than any punk record. Of course the difference with two tone was that not only did it have the attitude, they were in the main good musicians too.
- I “borrowed” the song to illustrate a point in a very different idiom in the photo montage below. Here’s another chance for regular readers to see that again and others to see it perhaps for the first time.
