Brilliant event last night. Well organised, wonderfully supported (I doubt if many more folk could have squeezed in). Most importantly over £4000 was raised for Bobath Scotland.
The “headline” band were Cortez and it was a little bit of a shock to learn that two of Cortez line up are sons of an old friend of mine! However they took pity on me and I jammed with them on their last number. As for Harmonica Lewinsky, if we have ever played better than that I cant remember it. Using proper mixing gear and PA in a venue with a stage and a large appreciative audience can do wonders! All four bands went down very well. Littlehed had probably the toughest job as they were on first and people were really just arriving at that stage.
Tom Russell of Rock Radio was the MC for the night. I can remember Tom as Radio Clyde’s “rock” man. He told me that he’d worked with Clyde for 25 years. He is an absolute gentleman and did a brilliant job presenting the gig.
This is Yours Truly with Tom after the Lewinskys stint. I hope to be able to post some photos later this week when the photographers who were there forward their photos to me.
Well done to Allan Sneddon for organising things so meticulously. Such a shame that the photos in the press next week of a successful high profile charity event will be of Dumbarton Masonic and not Dumbarton Football Club who pulled out of the gig five weeks ago. Shame on them. The Masonic have said they were delighted with the conduct of the crowd, not to mention their bar takings for the night!

Sounds like a great night Rab. Couldn’t make it as the recovery time from a wedding and a welcome but surprisng Sons win left me knackered!!
Well done though to everyone involved, especially Allan S.
Like you I share the disappointment that at DFC we saw fit to bow out of hosting the night. Shame.
Anyhoo, £4k, brilliant!
Alan, thanks for the kind words. It was an absolutely brilliant night. The lady from Bobath was quite amazed. I believe the final total is something like £4900 thanks to a quite magnificent donation from a financial adviser who part sponsored the night and attended the event. Indeed his donation makes up well over half the total profit!
It really is time for DFC to live up to the community club tag they use as a flag of convenience whenever it suits. This was the best community event I have ever attended let alone taken part in in Dumbarton and the club turned it down.
The Masonic is a great venue and everyone was made very welcome. They could teach DFC a thing or two about PR.
That was a fantastic night, and as far as being the doorman I have never had it so easy. A full house and a fantastic crowd out to listen to top notch music and have fun raising money for a great cause.
Well done Allan and everyone involved, But from my perspective well done to the people who came to support this event (made my night easy )
I for one hope we see you all back sooner rather than later
I’d just like to say how much we enjoyed this night. As good bands as you’d hear anywhere and the atmosphere was good as well. Six happy customers and well done for raising so much for the charity.
I travelled up from Oxfordshire for this event. It was a great night. Loved all the Bands. Was made to feel very welcome by everyone . Well done to Allan Sneddy and Debbie for all their hard work putting on Castle Rocks. Hope to be there for the next one!!!!!
Although I sat at the door till the end of the night to take in tickets, the music was fantastic. All credit to the bands. I would like to say many thanks to Joanne for keeping me company, without her we wouldn’t have managed to sell so many T-shirts. Also thanks to ‘Doorman’ for being such good company and to Merrilyn (Rockin Granny) who not only travelled up for the concert but also helped out with setting up in the afternoon and kept checking to see if there was anything else needing done as the night went on. I for one would love to see another event in the same venue next year. All the best folks, Debs x
Debbie
You worked hard on the night and thanks for that. All our band thoroughly enjoyed it and would quite happily give our services in any similar event. When Allan first approached me with the idea of this I was sceptical of just how much money we could raise. Even with an imposed change of venue the total was remarkable. What a win-win when the organisers, performers, helpers and audience (oh and the venue treasurer!) all enjoy the night! Good stuff.
Sounds a terrific evening, Rab. Sad about DFC.
