After posting the item below, news reaches me that at last night’s council meeting the SNP and independent George Black along with SSP member Jim Bollan voted through £10,000 funding for a feasibility study into opening up High Street Dumbarton to traffic once more. The decision I am sure is not unrelated to this week’s media coverage and is a real breakthrough.
I would love to be a fly on the wall on some of the discussions taking place at Garshake (Council Headquarters) or indeed amongst the Labour group in the wake of THAT decision.

10 grand to tell us what we already know!! Eh? Am I missing something here? 10 friggin’ grand for a feasibility study?
I’ll save them the cash. Let the traffic back into the High Street.
There. Done.
The money WAS to have gone in to a feasibility study to light up Dumbarton Rock. It will be better used this way. You can’t just open it up again. We have to get bus routes disabled parking and those 30 foot wide pavements sorted out. Ten grand is a small price to pay to ensure any change works.
Aye OK, I know things don’t happen overnight. But to spend 10 grand on the obvious just seems a waste of my money.
Stevie Wonder can see that the High Street is dead. Why then wait for an expensive report when they can just get on with it?
Alan, they spent over a million making an arse of the place. Ten grand as a first step in putting it right isn’t much in the scheme of things. Nine months rates for my shop as a matter of fact.
Good news about the study.
Got to say though that having lived in Dumbarton for just over 6 months that West Dumbartonshire Council are awful, totally dreadful in every way shape and form! I already have about a dozen stories to tell which for being here such a short time is wrong!
Michael, I know what a fair minded guy you are and would not be prone to saying these things without foundation. I’m sorry if you too have come up against problems with WDC. My problem is specifically with the Labour group and some of the council officials. I have found the SNP guys, the independent and even the SSP member much more helpful and sympathetic. Look out for the Lennox Herald this week!
What’s your problem with the Labour Group? They are not the administration of the Council? Keep your gripes to yersel.
Wee yin, the Labour party had (previously) been the ruling group in West Dunbartonshire for a very long time. They had their chance to improve the town but failed by listening to highly paid consultants rather than local people.
